For initial licenses issued on or after July 1 of any year, there will be no continuing education requirement as a condition of renewal of such initial license that expires December 31 of the year of issuance.
For initial licenses issued before July 1 of any year, there will be an obligation to complete fourteen (14) hours of continuing education as a condition of renewal before the initial license expires on December 31 of the year of issuance.
Appraisers of all license levels who renew their credential will be issued a two-year license and must complete at least twenty-eight (28) hours of approved appraiser continuing education during the two-year period preceding expiration of the license.
Also, all licensees renewing a license at the end of their two-year licensing period must complete the National USPAP Update Course set forth in Board Rule 7.19. The update course will be credited toward the required 28 hours of continuing education for the renewal cycle.
Approved Real Estate Appraiser Continuing Education Course Information
Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice Update Course (USPAP)
7-Hour National USPAP (or an equivalent) which:
- Must be completed once every two (2) years; and
- Must be taught by an AQB certified instructor.
- Qualifying Education completed by a Licensee to satisfy the class hour requirements for a different credentialed license level than the Licensee’s current credential may simultaneously count towards the Continuing Education requirements of their current license.
- Continuing education cannot be used to satisfy any qualifying education requirement for licensure/certification.
- Please refer to the Colorado Board of Real Estate Appraisers rules 7.1 - 7.26 for more information.
- Each licensee must keep records documenting proof of completion of education.
- Proof of completion records must be maintained for five (5) years.
The Division of Real Estate maintains and updates a list of educational courses that have been approved by the Board of Real Estate Appraisers for continuing education.
- Courses that have been approved for Continuing Education ("CE"), Continuing Education with an exam, and/or Qualifying Education ("QE") will have the approved number of credits listed in the applicable column. Courses approved by the Board will be the only courses that count toward your continuing education.
- Not every approved course is on the Division’s list. Check with course providers for courses approved by other organizations.
- Prior to taking a course not on the Division’s list, you should obtain proof of course approval from that course provider.
- Real property appraisal students who take USPAP classes must ensure that the instructor of the course is an AQB Certified USPAP Instructor and a state-certified general appraiser.
