Broker Education Providers & Course Approval
Real estate broker continuing education must be taken from providers that have been approved by the Commission. Continuing education must meet the following standards for a provider to be approved by the Commission:
- Must be developed by persons qualified in the subject matter
- Must be current
- The instructor must be qualified with respect to content and teaching methods
- The teaching methods must be appropriate for the number of participants and the physical facilities available to the instructor
- Course providers must obtain approval for each course offering
- Any substantial changes made to the curriculum requires a new submission
- Course provider is responsible for ensuring that the course and Instructor(s) are in compliance with these requirements at all times, or the course approval may be revoked.
Continuing Education Approval Process
Steps to submit a course for approval.
Complete the Broker Education Course Application.
Courses will be approved for up to three (3) years.
Annual or one-time seminar or conference offerings may be approved for a specific date or dates.
As discussed elsewhere on this webpage, Annual Commission Update providers/instructors are only approved for the specific calendar year in which the Annual Commission Update is approved.
If submitting the course for Live Online (synchronous) presentation, complete the Broker Live Online Virtual Classroom Checklist.
If submitting the course for On-Demand (asynchronous) presentation, complete the Broker On-Demand Classroom Checklist.
Submit a resume outlining past expertise that qualifies the proposed instructor or instructors to provide training.
Submit a detailed and timed outline.
The outline must have sufficient details to justify the number of continuing education credits requested.
The Division has prepared a SAMPLE Broker Education Course Timed Outline which can be reviewed to further explain the requirements.
If applying for Commission Rule 2.5.C.3.a.iii approval, the course outline must contain an additional objective statement outlining how the course material meets the requirements of said rule.

Commission Requirements for Education Providers
Education providers seeking approval to provide continuing education to real estate brokers must submit their proposed course(s) to the Division of Real Estate for approval prior to offering.
The course and course materials must follow all the requirements found in section 12-10-213(3), C.R.S., and Real Estate Commission Rules 4.4, 4.5, 4.6, and 4.7.
- The Commission may, at its discretion, require an evaluation of an educational offering in a manner determined by the Commission.
- By offering real estate broker continuing education in Colorado, each provider agrees to comply with relevant statutes and current Commission Rules.
- For any approved course, an educational provider must permit a Commission audit of said courses at any time and at no cost.
- If the Commission determines that the offering fails to comply with the standards set above, the Commission will notify the provider of such deficiency and work with the provider to correct such deficiency prior to the next class offering. In the event a deficiency is not corrected, the Commission may withdraw approval of the provider, instructor and/or the class.

Certificate of Completion Guidelines
Education providers may choose any format for the continuing education course completion certificate. Commission Rules require the following:
ACU Train-the-Trainer Information
In order to be approved to provide or instruct the Annual Commission Update (“ACU”), a unique application is required each year. To apply:
At least one instructor from each organization must successfully complete the ACU training session, commonly referred to as the Train The Trainer Event;
Complete the Annual Commission Update Provider Application; and
Submit to DORA_RealEstateBrokerEducation@state.co.us.
Providers are responsible for ensuring each approved instructor completes the training prior to teaching the course.
